Dad Vail Regatta 2015

Sound of body, sound of mind—last week, our rowers finished their finals week strong and departed campus for the largest event of the year. The Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia is the race we look forward to throughout the entire year, logging countless training hours for during the winter so that when this weekend comes, Marquette Crew can be a real competitor against D1, D2, D3, and club teams from across the country. 128 schools entered boats, making it the largest collegiate regatta in North America.

Races began on Friday, May 8th. All squads enjoyed excellent conditions, with temperatures in the 70s and the sun shining over smooth water. Our Varsity Men’s Heavyweight 4+, stroked by sophomore Adam Kobiela, raced early that morning and earned 3rd place in their heat behind Drexel University and Ohio State.  The Varsity Women’s Heavyweight 8+, stroked by sophomore Alex Campbell, placed 4th in their heat and advanced to repechages. In a nail-biting heat of reps, the women earned 5th place, just six-tenths of a second behind Iona College.  The Novice Women’s 8+, stroked by freshman Kaitlin Howard, took 4th in their heat as well. The Varsity Women's 4+ and Novice Women's 4+ finished 5th in their heat in their respective events. The Novice Men competed in the Frosh Men's 8+ event, and placed 5th in their heat. The Lightweight Men's 4+ finished 6th in their heat.

We are incredibly proud of our rowers for their hard work this season, and extremely grateful to all the parents and alumni who made the trek to Philly in support of our athletes! The semester may be over but our team knows there is no such thing as an “off-season.” The team's next regatta will be the ACRA National Championship in Gainesville, Georgia. Stay tuned for updates on ACRA and summer training!
